A Time to Talk

When a friend calls to me from the road

And slows his horse to a meaning walk.

I don't stand still and look around

On all the hills I haven't hoed.

And shout from where I am, What is it?

No, not as there is a time to talk.

I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,

Blade-end up and five feet tall,

And plod: I go up to the stone wall

For a friendly visit

I'm struck by the irony of the timing of Greg's death. It was just the same Sunday, Laura and I were saying how we never know how long any of us will be around so we need to purpose to keep in touch with others who have touched our lives. God brings people into our lives to help shape us. How precious friends are, and foolish we would be to let out busyness stand in the way of taking time for a friendly visit. This past weekend's reunion wasn't really about high school. It was about people. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to see all of you who came. If you were unable to attend, may I encourage you to make the time to drop an old friend a note or arrange a time to get together. Some day, you may be very glad you did, or regret that you didn't.
